Managing agent (syndic)
The managing agent is the person or company appointed by the co-owners to administer the common areas of a building and to carry out the decisions of the general meeting.
They handle the day-to-day management of the building (upkeep, maintenance contracts, insurance), draw up the budget for the common charges and convene the general meetings of co-owners.
For someone buying or renting a flat, knowing who the managing agent is and how much the co-ownership charges come to is one of the things to check before committing.
