Renting

Service charges

Service charges are the costs linked to the day-to-day use of a rented home (upkeep of the common areas, water, communal heating, etc.) passed on to the tenant in addition to the rent.

These charges are generally paid monthly on account and then adjusted once a year on the basis of the actual expenditure of the co-ownership or of the building. They are separate from the main rent and must be set out in the lease.

For a tenant, knowing the estimated amount of the charges makes it possible to assess the real monthly cost of a home, beyond the advertised rent alone.
