Registration and transcription duties

Registration and transcription duties are the taxes levied by the State when a property is bought: 6% for registration and 1% for transcription in the land register.

They are calculated on the sale price stated in the deed and make up the largest share of purchase costs. The notary collects them at the signing and pays them over to the Registration, Estates and VAT Authority.

For the purchase of a main residence, the Bëllegen Akt tax credit reduces them. For a new home sold off-plan, they only apply to the land, the construction being subject to VAT.
