The notary is the public officer responsible, in Luxembourg, for drawing up and authenticating property sale deeds, guaranteeing the legal security of the transaction.
The notary steps in at several stages of a property transaction: checking the legal position of the property, drawing up the notarial deed, collecting the registration duties and recording the change of owner in the land register.
Their involvement is compulsory for any property sale in Luxembourg. They act impartially between the buyer and the seller, even when one of the parties has chosen them.
